The Conservative Group for Europe (CGE) and the Society of Conservative Lawyers (SCL) are hosting a joint webinar entitled International Law, the Withdrawal Agreement and the UK’s Reputation with Sir Bob Neill MP and Rt Hon. The Lord Garnier PC QC.

Sir Bob has served as the Member of Parliament for Bromley and Chislehurst since 2006. He is the current of Chair of the Justice Select Committee and Chair of the SCL Executive Committee. He is a Master of the Bench at the Middle Temple Inn, and chairs and co-chairs a number of All-Party Parliamentary Groups in Westminster, including the APPG for London.

From 2010 - 2012 Sir Bob served as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department of Communities and Local Government. Before being elected to the House of Commons, he was the Leader of the Conservative Party in the London Assembly.

Sir Bob studied Law at the London School of Economics, which led to a successful career as a barrister specialising in criminal law.

 

Rt Hon. The Lord Garnier PC QC served as the Conservative Member of Parliament for Harborough from 1992 - 2017 and was Solicitor General for England and Wales from 2010 - 2012. He held a number of Shadow Cabinet positions including, Shadow Home Affairs Minister, Shadow Minister for Justice and Shadow Attorney General.

Lord Garnier was educated at Wellington College, Berkshire, Jesus College, Oxford and the College of Law, London. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in April 1995, a Crown Court Recorder in 1998 and a Bencher of the Middle Temple in 2001.

More recently, Lord Garnier represented former Prime Minister John Major in the High Court and UK Supreme Court hearings regarding the prorogation of Parliament in September 2019.
