The Conservative Group for Europe is hosting a webinar, Meeting the economic challenge of climate change: the role of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and the City, with The Rt Hon the Lord Deben (John Gummer) and Sir Roger Gifford.
Lord Deben is current Chair of the Independent Committee on Climate Change. Previously, he was the Member of Parliament for Lewisham West then Suffolk Costal and has sixteen years of ministerial experience in the Governments of both Margret Thatcher and John Major. He was the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food between 1989 and 1993; was the longest serving Secretary of State for the Environment and from 1983 to 1985 he was Chairman of the Conservative Party.
Sir Roger has been with the Swedish bank SEB for several decades. He has worked in and around the debt and equity capital markets in the UK and Japan most of his career. He led the UK Government's Green Finance Taskforce in 2018 and Chairs the UK Green Finance Institute. He is an Alderman of the City of London Corporation and was Lord Mayor of London in 2013.
